Third German Renewable Energy Forum opens tomorrow

MUSCAT NOV 4 - The German Industry and Commerce Office (AHK) Oman, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), in cooperation with the German Renewables Academy (RENAC), is hosting the 3rd German Renewable Energy Conference tomorrow, November 6, at Grand Hyatt Hotel Muscat. Deliberations during the daylong event will focus on the theme, ‘Energy Solutions — Made in Germany’. The conference, the third in the series after the maiden event in October 2014 followed by the second edition in April 2016, will bring together government officials and private sector representatives to discuss renewable energy solutions for Oman.


The proceedings will begin with opening remarks from Dr Dalia Samra-Rohte, Deputy CEO of the German Industry and Commerce (AHK) in the Gulf Region for Oman, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Iraq, and Thomas F Schneider, German Ambassador to Oman. Céline Kittel of RENAC will then introduce the theme, ‘German Energy Solutions Initiative’, which will be followed by a presentation by Olivier Druecke on ‘Understanding the German Energiewende (Energy Transition) — impacts of decentralised power supply’.


There will also be presentations from relevant local stakeholders, represented by Eng Hilal al Ghaithy, Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) on ‘Renewable Energy in Oman — An update on opportunities’, and by Dr Sausan al Riyami, Institute of Advanced Technology Integration (IATI), The Research Council on ‘Using Solar Energy for Continuous Hybrid Cooling’.


Representatives from five well-established and experienced German market leaders from the renewable sector will also present their ideas and solutions for Oman’s renewable energy market. The companies and titles of their presentations are: ABO Wind AG — “Photovoltaics and CSP”; Apricum GmbH — “Business Opportunities for Omani Firms in the Rapidly Expanding GCC PV Markets”; German Cleantech Group — “Turn-Key Solutions for Renewable Energy Generation in Oman”; SERTS/LED Superlight — “Sustainable, Efficient and Renewables Technologies and Solutions”; and Solibro GmbH — “The SOLIBRO CIGS technology — Thin-film solar cells with highest efficiency”.
