Muscat: The Inflation rate in the Sultanate recorded an increase of (1.13%) in August 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year.
This increase was attributed to the price of Transport group by (6.24%), Education group by (4.9%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services groups by (0.76%), Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by (0.6%), Restaurants and hotels group by (0.59%).
On the other hand, the price of Health group decreased by (3.06%), food and non-alcoholic beverages by (1.17%), Clothing & footwear group by (0.94%), Furnishings, Household equipment & routing household maintenance group by (0.73%), Recreation and Culture group by (0.35%), Communication group by (0.31%), Tobacco group by (0.14%), during the month of August 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year.
The general prices index recorded a decrease by (0.02%) during August 2018 compared to the previous month, due to the decrease price of Clothing & Footwear group by (0.22%), Transport group by (0.15%), Communications group by (0.02%), Recreation and Culture group by (0.09%), Miscellaneous goods and services by (0.04). On the other hand, the price increased in Foods & non-alcoholic Beverages group by (0.06%), due to the price increase of Vegetables by (1.27%), Fruits by (0.9%), Milk, Cheese & Eggs, Oils & Fats groups by (0.12%) each other.
The price increase in Restaurants and Hotels group by (0.37%), Furnishings, Household Equipment &Routine Household Maintenance group by (0.01%), While the prices settled of the Tobacco, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other fuels, Health, Education groups in August 2018 compared to the previous month.
The governorates of the Sultanate witnessed a rise in the inflation rate for August 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year.
The index recorded an increase of (2.09%) in the Governorate of Al Batinah North, the Governorate of Dhofar by (2.01%), the Governorate of Al Dakhiliya by (1.13%), the Governorate of Muscat by (0.7%), the Governorate of Al Dhahira by (0.61%), the Governorates of South and North Al Sharqiya by (0.57%), and the Governorate of Al Buraimi by (0.13%), in August 2018 compared to the same month of last year. –ONA
