Sultanate dominate GCC junior tennis

MUSCAT, DEC 30 - Oman dominated the week-long GCC under-18 and under-14 tennis championships by winning the three gold medals and two bronze medals. On the concluding day on Saturday, Oman’s ace player Abdullah al Barwani capped the hosts performance with a singles gold in under-18, making it the third gold medal in the category. Oman won the team and doubles gold medals in under-18. Abdullah beat Kuwaiti player Bader Abdul Aziz 6-4, 6-2 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex
tennis courts.






Mohammed bin Salim al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony in presence of Abdul Redha Jassim al Ghareeb, Chairman of GCC Organising Committee, Nawaf al Shammari, Representative of the General Secretariat of the GCC States, and Khalid al Aadi, Oman Tennis Association Chairman.
The chief guest distributed the awards to the top-place winners and honoured the participants at the coaching course organised as part of the tournament and the referees who officiated the competitions.
Abdullah al Barwani was named the best player in the under-18 section, while Qatari player Rahid Nawaf won the same award in the under-14 category.






The tournament from December 22 to 29 featured five teams including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Oman U-18 team dominated the competitions and brought back Oman to the top after being third in the last edition.
In the under-18 doubles, Abdullah al Barwani and Muneer al Rawahi claimed the gold medal while Abdullah al Raisi and Zakriya al Suleimani added a bronze for Oman.
Fayez al Khanjari won the bronze medal in under-14 section.
