MUSCAT/MANCHESTER: The Sultanate strongly condemned the Manchester concert attack which resulted in scores of deaths and injuries, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

The statement reaffirmed the Sultanate’s stance towards discarding violence and terrorism of any source and for any reasons and causes, as well as its refusal of all criminal acts that frighten innocent people and contradict all human values and principles.

The statement expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the friendly British government, and wished speed recovery for the injured.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May vowed “terrorists will not prevail” after an eight-year-old girl was among 22 people killed at a packed pop concert in a suicide bombing claimed by the IS group.

Britain’s worst terror bloodshed for more than a decade came just over two weeks before the country votes in a general election, and after a series of deadly attacks across Europe.

Witnesses described the horror when the bomber blew himself up as youngsters streamed out of the concert by US star Ariana Grande at one of Europe’s largest indoor venues in Manchester.

The British police identified the attacker as 22-year-old Salman Abedi. “I can confirm that the man suspected of carrying out last night’s atrocity is 22-year-old Salman Abedi,” Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins told reporters.
