Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has withdrawn certain types of souvenirs sold in the Muttrah Souq following a complaint.

Muttrah Souq is frequently visited by the tourists, including cruise travelers, to shop for souvenirs that depict the important landmarks of Oman, including its cultural and traditional heritage.

In a tweet, Dr  Mohammed al Shuaili had pointed out, "These products are sold in most of the gift shops in Muttrah Souk. Oman's name has been painted in the national colors, but some symbols from another country have been mixed up with the important landmarks in the Sultanate. We ask the concerned authorities to address this issue."

The ministry replied, "We would like to inform that we have contacted the concerned ministry and the inspection teams visited the stores in Muttrah market and the products were withdrawn. Thank you for your concern and cooperation."
