SMEs new registrations reach 1,817 units in Q1

MUSCAT: The new registrations of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Sultanate stood at 1,817 units for the first three months of 2018.


This was against 2,759 new SME registrations for the same period of last year, according to the monthly data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The SMEs units include medium, small and micro business enterprises.


Among the governorates, the Governorate of Muscat witnessed 685 new SMEs registrations, comprising 37.70 per cent of the total


registrations in January till March 2018, against 930 new registrations in the same period of last year.


The new registrations of SMEs in the Governorate of North al Batinah stood at 256 in the first three months of 2018, against 399 for the same period of last year, constituting 14.09 per cent share in the total new registrations during January-March period.


This was followed by the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah 212, Governorate of South Al Batinah 136, Dhofar 128, North Al Sharqiyah 113, South Al Sharqiyah 108,


Al Dhahirah 93, Al Buraimi 62, Al Wusta 15 and Musandam 9.


As many as 31,835 new SME units were registered in the country during 2017, says the NCSI report.


Of this, 10,260 new units were in the Governorate of Muscat. — ONA
