Smart street light control system in Muscat

Muscat Municipality is currently experimenting with an intelligent central control system for the street lighting network in Muscat, aimed at reducing maintenance costs and better controlling mechanisms from remote.
A total of 40 electrical grid assemblies have been installed and operated to monitor and retrieve information.
Ziyad bin Abdul Majid al Zadjali, Director of Lighting Department at Muscat Municipality, said, “This step will introduce a modern concept for managing street lights through a simulation system that tracks all lighting networks in Muscat, monitors performance and sends information. In the event of any malfunction, there is immediate notification and the specialists can start directly to the site, which will shorten the time required for maintenance.
“This step will also enable the central monitoring of the street lighting system and make the street lighting processes quite smart, as this system has many advantages, which will allow scheduling of the lighting time keeping in mind the timings of sunrise and sunset.”
