RO 100 fine for barbecue in public places and parks

Muscat, Jan 27 - Muscat Municipality has banned barbecuing in public places. The municipality chairman has issued Decree 31/2019 on Sunday banning such activities. Visitors to parks and beach-goers leave behind charcoal and waste after barbecue. This leads to dirtying the area,
Article 1 prohibits the use of fire for barbecue in parks, public beaches, corridors and green spaces except in the sites and places designated for this purpose by the municipality. Article (2) stipulates that “Without prejudice to the penalties stipulated in Article (14) of the Muscat Municipality Law, any person who contravenes the provisions of this decree shall be liable to an administrative fine of RO 100.
It should be noted that the decision was based on the Muscat Municipality Law issued by Royal Decree No. 38/2015.
A fine of RO 100 will also be slapped on those found littering in public places. People can enjoy barbecuing in places where public utilities are not affected.
The municipality will continue to crack down on littering and dumping of waste in places other than the designated areas.
