Ramadhan Nights table tennis tourney begins today

Muscat, May 16  – As many as 35 teams will take part in the first edition of Ramadhan Nights table tennis tournament which will kick off today. The Oman Table Tennis Committee completed its preparations to host this event in cooperation with Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC).
The draw of the tournament was held yesterday at OCEC in Ghala. Many government units and some companies representing private sector will participate in this tournament as they have completed registrations process. The tournament will be held in two stages. The first stage will be for pre-qualifications round to be held during May 17 to 20. While the finals stage will take part from May 31 to June 3.
“This tournament will be looked upon as a scouting tournament to identify for the deserving participants from government and private sectors,” said Sajjad al Lawati, tournament manager. “Two players from each team will represent a team. We will arrange six tables for competitions. Two more extra tables will be arranged for family members to play table tennis and have some fun time.” Al Lawati added. “Layali Ramadhan at OCEC includes a range of activities from sports to shopping and corporate iftars, as well as PlayStation tournament and a live radio show. We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Omani Table Tennis Committee to host the Table Tennis Tournament at our venue” — Trevor McCartney, General Manager at the OCEC, said.
