MUSCAT: Omani racer, Al Faisal Al Zubair is the latest team member to join Red Bull becoming one of more than 878 athletes from around the globe to join the team. “I am very excited to be part of the Red Bull family. It feels amazing to be surrounded by a family of top athletes from around the world. It really started to sink in when I started receiving messages and comments congratulating me from friends and family all around the world,” commented Al Faisal.

The Red Bull athlete will be competing against some of the best drivers in the world at Rounds 1 and 2 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on May 13 and 14 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Al Faisal will be competing in the ultra-competitive championship, with his brand new FZ Racing team, officially launched last week.

Speaking about the upcoming debut, Al Faisal said: “I’ll be competing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with Lechnar Racing which is the strongest Porsche series in the world. It’ll definitely be a tough season but I’m prepared for it and ready to learn as much as possible.”

Just three weeks ago, the racer had a phenomenal double title success during the final event of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East season. As well as winning the GCC Rookie Class and Silver Class titles, an outstanding feat in his maiden year away from single-seater racing, the teenager also made headlines by winning his first outright race during the season finale in Bahrain.

“It was definitely the best race weekend of my life, first win in my car career. There are no words to describe the feeling. I feel I proved myself throughout the season with good results but to top it off with an overall was just amazing,” Al Faisal said speaking about his recent success.

This weekend opening practice for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup competitors will take place at 17.50 (local time) on Friday May 12, with qualifying following at 12.30 (local time) on Saturday, May 13, ahead of the first race of the new season at 18.25 (local time). On Sunday May 14, race two will commence at 11.45 (local time).
