MUSCAT: Oman Chess Committee signed an agreement with Zubair Corporation at the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and Sports Federations premises in Muscat on Tuesday in the presence of Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman. Sheikh Mahfoudh bin Ali al Juma, OOC Member pointed out that the agreement comes within the constructive initiatives made to enhance public private partnership (PPP) with sport sectors. It also emanates from Zubair Corporation’s desire to contribute to sport achievements and enhancing the performance of the national teams at the different competitions at all levels.
Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Chairperson of Oman Chess Committee said that establishing centers in the governorates comes in a bid to activate the game, increase the number of players and enable them to compete with their peers at the other countries. “The players will form the base for chess national teams at the different age groups,” she added. The three centres in the Governorates of Dhofar, North Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah, target that age groups between 8 to 16. Training at the centres will be provided three days a week.
