MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has refuted reports about the imposition of restrictions on domestic trade.

While denying it was drafting a new law or regulations for domestic trade or electronic marketing of services or products, the ministry reiterated its encouragement for this type of marketing.

Commenting on the products sold on social networking sites, the ministry said the existing regulations allow electronic retailing.

The intellectual property laws and other regulations in the Sultanate protect the rights of producers, sellers and consumers and “there is no need for a new law or regulation to regulate e-retailing”, it said.

It denied rumours about a plan to close the social media accounts used for e-retailing.
