Government selects third mobile operator in Oman

The government has selected the third operator for mobile communications in the Sultanate to a consortium consisting of a local company owned by investment funds and its global strategic partner with necessary capabilities in this area. This decision comes in an effort to strengthen the role of investment funds and enable them to contribute to Push the national economy.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has instructed the TRA to cancel the current bid and
ministry will work with the authority to implement the new orientation as of today’s date and follow-up until the issuance of the necessary license for the new company.
This decision comes in light of the efforts exerted to strengthen the telecommunications networks in the Sultanate and provide high quality services for citizens to cope with modern technologies and steady population growth.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications, in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has put forward a bid for a third mobile operator in line with the policy requirements of the telecommunications sector to achieve the objectives of the national broadband strategy. The policy is also aimed at improving telecommunications services in the Sultanate and creating new jobs for citizens by boosting economy.
