The Sultanate has seen a steady rise in the number of tourists from Czech Republic in the last three years.

In 2015, the number of Czech tourists was 4,000, in 2016, it was 8,000. This year, the number rose to 16,000. In Czech Republic, Oman has been listed as one of the top destinations to explore. For Czech tourists, the major attractions in Oman are nature, resorts and beaches.

“Czech tourists swim even during winter and sea is a delight, which makes Oman an ideal tourist destination,” said Ivo Vanek, Honorary Consul, the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Vanek, what the tourists list as important is the safety element in Oman.“Many in Czech Republic and Central Europe look at Oman as part of the Middle East not knowing the tranquillity that is enjoyed here.

When they discover it, they are excited.

We are doing our part in conveying the right image of Oman in the Czech Republic.”

“We receive calls every day enquiring about the golf courses in Oman,” said Vanek.

However, there are challenges and Czech officials feel one of them is the absence of direct flights.“At present, they have to fly to Oman either through Dubai or Istanbul,” said Vanek.

“There is excitement (in our country) when we explain about Oman’s standard, gender equality and tolerance,” said Jitka Mulacova, Permanent Representative in Oman, The Czech– Omani Society.

The Czech officials were participating in the Second UNWTO/UNESCO Tourism and Culture in the capital Muscat.

“We would like to work on bilateral tourism.

The attractions include the richness of Czech history starting with Prague itself and a lot of places listed by UNESCO.

We have a strong spa culture, some of which are for clients from Arab countries, including provision of customer service in Arabic language,” added Jitka. The Czech spa tradition is one of the oldest in Europe.
