FIVE Questions

What is the most difficult challenge you have to personally overcome during Ramadhan?
IAs a dermatologist, the challenge in medical practice for a doctor is to fast and work. I have to work the same hours and actually would have do more during night times for the comfort of my patients. Most of the patients can only come after iftaar. Also one has to do research and investigation regarding medicine dosages allowed for my patients.

WHY IS RAMADHAN IMPORTANT FOR YOU?
The holy month of Ramadhan is important because personally, it teaches me on how to become a better human being for the future months. It teaches and helps me realise the value of hunger. It’s also significant because it is a time for prayers and helping the needy.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FOND MEMORY OF RAMADHAN GROWING UP?
My memories of Ramadhan in India and the Sultanate of Oman are somewhat similar. I think as a Muslim, wherever you are, you won’t feel alone. I have never felt lonely in Oman during the holy month as when you go to mosque, there’s a lot of other worshippers like you..

DO YOU HAVE ANY FAMILY TRADITION DURING RAMADHAN?
We didn’t have any family tradition per se. Here in Oman, the tradition becomes about spending quality time with love ones and brothers. My Omani brothers have made me very comfortable with my life here.

Do you help the poor during RamadHan and how?
Actually, helping the poor shouldn’t only be during the holy month of Ramadhan. Even on other months, we provided our needy labourers with a few of their necessities or medicines and some sunscreens.
