Muscat, August 8 - Interactive Solutions and Services, a local small and medium enterprise (SME), has become the first such venture to provide Oman’s global virtual address .om domain, it was announced on Tuesday.
The company will be hosting commercial establishments that wish to register on .om domain.
The SME focuses on social networking sites, professional programming for systems and websites, and domain reservation.
“We are focused on the core business in the understanding that most Omani companies are using international domains and not Omani domains,” says Abdullah al Shanfari, the company’s CEO.
“We have introduced a new package of pricing after understanding the business models from the US. The pricing is on par with international companies. We are offering the domain names for free while the maintenance will be charged annually,” he said.
Currently, five telecom service providers are offering the domain .om in the market.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) stipulates stringent measures for companies that provide domain service.
“We started approving domain providers since 2012. With this, Oman will have six such domain providers,” according to Aysha al Mamry, Specialist at the TRA.
“Every SME in the country which wants to be at the pinnacle needs to change its attitude towards service provision and should be willing to give more and offer himself to the clientele and give more than what is expected from us.
“I feel hard work and willingness to go that extra mile to serve the clients can take them where they want to be,” said Al Shanfari.
