MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry seeks to encourage setting up businesses and attracting local and foreign investments to enhance growth of the national economy and diversify sources of the national income. The ministry encourages Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) industry urging public, private, civil society organisations, as well as diplomatic, regional and international organisations in the Sultanate to organise conferences and seminars in the Sultanate. These conferences and exhibitions provide an ideal opportunity for sharing information and marketing the tourism potentials of the Sultanate.
They also contribute to enhancing the occupancy rates at the hotels and MICE facilities. Awadh bin Said al Alawi, Director of Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that the Sultanate’s attaches a great importance to the development of MICE industry as it plays a remarkable role in the growth of the national economy. He affirmed that the laws and regulations in force in the Sultanate provide freedom in doing businesses including MICE industry. The Sultanate has also established Oman Office for Conferences at the Ministry of Tourism to facilitate the organisation of international conferences in the Sultanate. — ONA
