SALALAH: Dhofar University came out with flying colours in the General Knowledge Quiz Bowl hosted by Salalah College of Technology.
The Bowl involved six teams of four students each, with three teams representing each of the two institutions. The Bowl consisted of several rounds of questions from wide range of categories including Omani history, famous global personalities, knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, General knowledge and world history. During the Quiz individual student groups were asked questions. Some questions were answered on a rotational basis and others needed to be written down and submitted to the judges for marking.
Three teams of Dhofar University were placed first, second and third out of the six competing teams. The Dhofar University’s red team which included Sumaira Idrees Toor, Lobna Awadh Ali al Awadi, Bayan Mohammed Khalil, and Ala Areef Ahmad Wazwaz placed first; the DU pink team with Weam Mohammed al Jilani, Alwi Mohammed al Jilani, Mohammed Ehtisham and Hira Moubin placed second; and the DU green team with Suzan Aref Fathi, Rozan Aref Fathi, Rahma Said al Awaid, and Rehana Kouther Mohammed Moushtaz placed third.
The red team also won the championship round and the team members received the championship trophy. Faculty members who participated in this event from Dhofar University were Dr Vijay Singh Thakur, Ehsan Elahi and Dr Susan Crosbie from the Languages and Translation Department.
The faculty members who organised and conducted the event from Salalah College of Technology were Kevin Stoda, Jon Chittick, Wendella Francis and Felicious Grace. The panel of judges included Amy Cheadle and Marc Carmichael-Brown.
