Dancers bid to enter Guinness Records

MUSCAT: Universal Dance Record (UDEAR) festival last month saw 11,560 Bharathanatyam dancers performing around the world to pay tribute to farmers. In Oman it was performed at Al Noor Al Malakia Hall, Al Multaqa, in Suhar. Apart from Oman, this festival was also held in many countries such as the UAE, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, Ghana and in many states in India with maximum participants from the state of Tamil nadu, the land of Bharatanatyam. This event has been by approved by Asia Book of Records as a new milestone on the date of festival itself.


This grand UDEAR dance started exactly at 2.30 pm in Suhar with 26 dancers in line with the uniform timings followed across the globe. The song was composed by Chinnaswamy Subramania Bharati also known as Bharthiyar and choreographed by Balambal, a veteran in classical dance.


Githaa Ravishannkhar, Director, Sohar Institute for Music and Arts, said in her welcome speech that today’s grand dance performance is an attempt to create a Guinness World Record with more than 10,000 plus dancers from all over the world.


Shaikh Anis Mohammed al Mamaary, CEO of Oman Education & Training Investment, was the chief guest and gave felicitation address and certificates to the participants. Rameshgopal, CEO of Sohar Steel Group, Dr Rajiv Tandon, Chairman of Indian Social Club Sohar, Surya Muduli, General Manager of the Royal Garden Hotel, Ravishannkhar, Group Financial Adviser, Sohar Steel Group of Companies and Hiddenidol nominee Dr Govindarajan were also present.


UDEAR was organised by Hiddenidol, an organisation based in London. Hiddenidol CEO Balakumar congratulated the organising committee at Sultanate of Oman for their splendid efforts in conducting this festival especially Sohar Institute for Music and Arts for their full involvement. This institute trains students in classical dance, Carnatic and Hindustani music. Sohar Steel Group provided financial support to this event. Aburva Govindarajan, a student of Indian School Sohar was the coordinator for this event in Oman.
