The Council of Ministers said it is closely following the plan to provide 25,000 jobs for Omanis. In a statement on Thursday, the council said it hoped the plan would be completed in six months.

“The Council of Ministers is following up, with full attention, the execution of the decision on providing 25,000 jobs for the nationals.” The Council of Ministers is closely monitoring the progress of employment procedures on a weekly basis to have firsthand knowledge of what has been achieved and deal with any challenges that might obstruct its implementation.

The efforts on the part of the government departments and private sector companies have started to gradually yield fruits.

His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, said that the employment of sons and daughters of this country in all fields of work is a national duty that must be advanced by all means, noting that constant attention is being accorded to this objective by the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. He pointed out that economy is not the main hurdle as Oman is growing well but the challenge is the regularisation of the labour market, which the government is working hard to achieve.

HH Sayyid Fahd commended the excellent level of Omani youth and their noble aspirations, hoping that all parties will cooperate to provide jobs to Omanis and “let every citizen savour the bounties of this generous, resourceful country.”

It may be noted that the recruitment drive by the Ministry of Manpower has given jobs to over 6,223 citizens till the middle of this month. The construction sector absorbed the highest number of 750 job-seekers. The lowest 42 have been employed by the finance sector.

The priority is for finalising recruitment of the job-seekers within six months from December 2017 to May 2018 mainly in the sectors of finance, insurance, industry, tourism and logistics.
