MUSCAT, March 5 -

A total of 49 Omani films will be screened at the 10th Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF), which will be held from March 26 to 31. These include 22 Omani short films, 20 full-length feature films and seven documentaries.

They will be screened along with scores of other films from around the world at the festival, which is held biennially, said Mohammed al Kindi, Chairman of Omani Film Society and Head of the Festival Committee.

While two days will be set aside for the opening and closing ceremonies, visitors from all over the world will be able to watch the preview of world-class movies during the four days, he said.

Iran, Iraq, Syria, Morocco, Algeria, Kuwait, Belgium, India and Pakistan are some of the countries participating in the festival. The committee is yet to finalise on the chief guest and the guest of honour.

“We can expect world-renowned film personalities to grace the occasion. A diverse range of film-makers, actors and writers will be present at the film festival,” said Al Kindi.

Along with the screening of movies at City Cinemas and Al Araimi, there will be special workshops on editing, script-writing and cinematography.

A GCC-wide competition for film-makers in an attempt to encourage them to make better movies with compelling stories and intriguing plots will also be part of the festival.

“We will also teach the art of making posters, teasers and trailers. All the nine steps of the process will be a unique experience for film aficionados in the country in particular and in the region in general,” said Al Kindi.

“The previous edition of the MIFF was an astounding success and the response was excellent. This year, we expect a bigger response,” he added.
