MUSCAT: About 23,505 owners of enterprises and their representatives on Sunday voted in different governorates to elect new board for Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), as well as to elect the boards for branches for the next term 2018-2022. Muscat OCCI comprises five members, in addition to heads of 10 boards of OCCI branches in the governorates. An OCCI branch board comprises seven members. Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Head of the OCCI Election Committee, said that the voting went off smoothly under close monitoring at all election centres. “Cooperation is maintained by all voters despite high turnout at election centres.” Candidates have seven days to submit their appeals after which the committee announces the final lists. Each OCCI branch board will hold a meeting to elect the head and deputy dead after which the 10 heads of the branches and the members from the Governorate of Muscat will meet to elect the OCCI chairman. — ONA
