23,163 students graduated last academic year

MUSCAT: Nearly 23,163 students graduated from government and private higher education institutions in the Sultanate in 2015-2016, of whom 11,427 are from universities and government colleges and 11,691 from private universities and colleges. The Higher Education Statistics Bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that 13,242 students received Bachelor/licence degrees — 4,875 men and 8,367 women. About 6,951 received the diploma, including 3,413 men and 3,538 women, while 609 students graduated in the Advanced Specialised Diploma.


Six students (3 men and 3 women ) received specialised certificate after the Bachelor’s degree. Eighty-one students received a higher diploma/postgraduate diploma, including 23 men and 58 women. 487 students received vocational certificate/vocational diploma, of which 53 are men and 434 women. The report says that 383 students received educational qualification diploma, including 5 men and 378 women, whereas 1,378 students received Master degrees, including 733 men and 645 women. 26 students secured doctorates (13 women and 13 men).


At the governorate level, the Governorate of Muscat had the highest percentage of graduates with 25 per cent, followed by North Al Batinah with 16.8 per cent. It is worth mentioning that the number of higher education institutions (government and private ) in the Sultanate stand at 69, and 16,244 academic and administrative employees work in these institutions. — ONA
