1.5 per cent fall in expatriate workers

MUSCAT: According to the latest data, the number of expatriates working as managers in the private sector stands at 37,162 as at the end of April this year, a marginal increase compared with the same period last year. The data published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the total number of expats in the Sultanate stands at 1.836 million, a 1.5-per cent decrease compared with 2017. Nationality-wise, Bangladeshis make up the largest number of expat workers at 682,700 followed by Indians (678,600) and Pakistanis (229,300). According to the statistics, the largest number of expats are employed in the private sector (1.482 million) followed by the domestic sector with 295,600 while the public sector employs 58,900.
