Urban development strategy discussed at Salalah conference

SALALAH: The Arab Sustainable Cities Conference was inaugurated on Wednesday at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation in Salalah to enable sustainability partners to develop cities under the Theme “Our City Our Responsibility”.
The conference is organised by the Municipality of Dhofar.
The opening of the conference was sponsored by Shaikh Salim bin Oufait al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality who honoured the institutions, parties and participants in the conference.
The conference included a presentation on the activities, in addition to two sessions on topics including strategic planning as a framework for urban planning, the national urban development strategy, and the role of smart
cities in promoting sustainable development, as well as reviewing pioneering initiatives in municipal councils to improve services, create a competitive spirit and achieve sustainability.
The aim of the conference is to enhance the role of public-private partnership in the sustainability of cities, as well as to identify the positive and negative effects of municipal and local councils, activate the role of alternative energy and green buildings as a strategic perspective and make recommendations to identify the most important strength aspects to support sustainable cities. — ONA
