MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development on Sunday held ground breaking ceremony for the National Autism Centre in the Wilayat of Seeb under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development. Al Kalbani commended the initiative offered by the Oman LNG noting that the people with special needs in Oman are in need of assistance and support from different public and private establishments. The centre is expected to serve a large segment of children with autism with many families being forced to send their children to private centres.

The centre will open within a year and a half and will provide rehabilitation services for Omani children with autism in order to help them overcome their disability and integrate into the society. The ground breaking ceremony was attended by Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, HH Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifar al Said, Chairperson of the Association of Welfare of the Disabled Children, and Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development. — ONA
