MUSCAT: Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, received in his office on Sunday Prince Zeid Raad, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who is currently visiting the Sultanate. Al Maawali gave a briefing for the guest on Majlis Ash’shura and its successive stages along more than three decades. He highlighted the progress witnessed by the Majlis in terms of the legislative and oversight powers, as well as the Majlis prerogatives. He also touched on the four sittings of the Majlis, work mechanisms of the permanent committees and the regular sessions. Prince Zeid hailed the Sultanate’s role, contributions and noticeable progress in the field of human rights. The meeting was attended by Mohammed bin Abu Bakr al Ghassani, Deputy Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, Shaikh Ali bin Nasser al Mahrouqi, Secretary-General of the Majlis Ash’shura, Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Sultanate’s Permanent Delegate to the UN and the delegation accompanying the guest. — ONA
