MUSCAT: Brigadier Dr Abdulmalik bin Suleiman al Kharousi, General Director of Medical Services at Royal Oman Police, has said that the ROP Hospital is continuously improving medical services being provided to its members.
He said more specialties such as orthopaedic, ophthalmology and gastrointestinal surgery were recently added to the outpatient clinics at the hospital. The services are provided by consultants with international expertise. The orthopaedic clinic is headed by a consultant of orthopaedic surgery from Germany, and he has performed 162 surgeries in 2018 including cruciate ligament, endoscopy, lateral ligament and removal of extra bones.
The ophthalmology clinic is run by a senior consultant from the UK. Last year, he performed 160 procedures including white descent, corneal fixation and laser eye compression treatment.
Gastrointestinal surgery, being performed at the internal medicine clinic, is done by a consultant from Ireland specialised in endoscopy operations of the digestive system. He performed about 100 gastroscopy of the digestive system last year.

The brigadier also said that the ROP Hospital includes other important clinics such as internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, pathology, forensic medicine, and psychiatry.
Al Kharousi explained that providing such services of international standards in local hospitals minimises spending on treatment. It also gives the opportunity to all ROP members to have access to these services.
The hospital provides its services with the help of modern medical equipment and by dispensing effective medicines. It is managed by competent Omani staff who are trained to carry out their noble and humanitarian role under the supervision of international experts and consultants.
Al Kharousi said ROP also gives the opportunity to apply for treatment abroad for a number of incurable cases. The General Administration of Medical Services is in constant coordination with these hospitals to exchange visits and organise training courses and workshops aimed at discussing the latest medical methods to be implemented locally.
