Palestinians reject Trump’s ‘leaked’ peace plan

TEL AVIV: A top US official has denied an Israeli media report which reveals purported details of US President Donald Trump’s undisclosed Middle East peace plan.

Channel 13 reported on Wednesday night that the plan includes the establishment of a Palestinian state on 85 to 90 per cent of West Bank territory.

It also stated that the plan includes land swaps between the Israelis and Palestinians, Israeli annexation of large settlement blocs and the evacuation of some illegal settlement outposts.

The report also stated that West Jerusalem and parts of East Jerusalem would be Israel’s capital, and parts of East Jerusalem, including most of the Arab neighbourhoods, would be the Palestinian capital. The Palestinian Authority currently sits in Ramallah.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas’s spokesman, said: “Any peace plan that does not include the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital is doomed to fail.”

He said attempts to find parties willing to cooperate with such plans “will face a deadlock because the only address for peace is the Palestinian leadership.”
