Over 33.6pc increase in tourists during Salalah Tourism Festival

SALALAH: The number of visitors to Salalah Tourism Festival since the beginning of the season till Saturday reached 630,829, a growth rate of 33.6 per cent, compared to the same period last year, which reached 472,231 visitors, said Marhoon bin Said al Amri, Director-General of Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar.


Al Amri pointed out that the number of Omanis constituted 76.9 per cent of the total number of visitors to Salalah Tourism Festival this year, while visitors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) accounted for 9.3 per cent and the rest of GCC nationals represented 8.3 per cent.


He added that the Ministry of Tourism prepared a plan to invest in Salalah Tourism Festival through awareness and promotional campaigns.


He affirmed that the media campaigns organised over the past years have contributed to the increase in the number of tourists coming to the governorate.


Al Amri said that the Governorate of Dhofar witnessed a significant expansion in the infrastructure of the tourism sector, an increase in the number of resorts, hotels, hotel apartments and furnished apartments where the total number of hotel establishments in the governorate reached 32 establishments with 3,499 hotel rooms and 5-star hotels increased to five.


As more as 1,851 hotel rooms are expected to be added by the end of the year while average occupancy rate of hotel establishments per month reached 60 per cent during July 2018. — ONA
