Oman Skating Committee participates at Asian AGM in China

MUSCAT, Aug 13 - Oman Skating Committee (OSC) participated at the annual general meeting of the Asian Ice Hockey Association which was held in China from August 10-12. Qasim al Barai and Saud al Oufi represented the committee during the meeting. OSC is planning to participate at the World Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and Winter Asian Games as one of the long term strategies that is set for the committee to achieve. The committee reviewed ways of developing and cooperating to develop the ice hockey sport in the Sultanate. The meeting discussed several tasks including ways of developing and sustaining the sport of ice hockey as well as activating the age stages of qualifying programmes for players and administrators.

The meeting emphasised the necessity of starting the women’s category events for this sport and activating their programmes. The committee presented its annual programmes to the Asian Ice Hockey Association. The committee started with the administrative and technical work and supported the government represented by the Ministry of Sports Affairs for this emerging sport and its integration with the programmes established by the ministry such as summer sports programme and other programmes. Also, the committee focused during the meeting that their main aim is to boost this sport among the clubs in the Sultanate.
