Oman national TT championship concludes today

MUSCAT - Oman Table Tennis Committee (OTTC) will announce the winners clubs of the Sultanate national table tennis championship for teams (junior, youth and senior categories) which concludes at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex indoor hall on Sunday. Dr Essam al Rawas, Vice-President of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI), will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony in the presence of Abdullah Ba Mukhalef, Chairman of OTTC, and representative of clubs. As many as eight clubs, namely Seeb (defending champion), Al Nahdha (the runner-up), Saham, Dhofar, Samayil, Oman, Salalah and Ibri are competing in the national TT shield for this edition.


Seeb registered a series of victories in the last three days of tournament. The Seeb captain Asaad al Raisi and his colleagues in the team beat Salalah 3-0, Samayil 3-1 and Dhofar 3-2. Saham recorded a strong start in the national tournament as they defeated Samayil 3-2 and then Ibri 3-1, Al Nahdha 3-2 and Oman with same result.


On the other hand, the final day of championship will include final matches in singles (Youth and senior players).


Nasser al Balushi will take on Haitham al Mandhari in the final of the youth category. The match will kick off in the morning session. In the senior section, Haitham al Mandhari reached another final as he will take on Muhannad al Balushi for the title. This match will begin at the evening session.


OTTC will honour 12 referees including four females for receiving international umpire licences. The Omani referee successfully completed all the requirements of the International TT Association to get the international emblem. This is one of the OTTC’s achievements in terms of developing the human capital of the committee. As per the OTTC’s future plans, there is a clear path to develop the new batches of referees who joined recently to the committee. Also, OTTC will conduct a series of local and international workshops and seminars through hosting qualified trainers and international umpires to provide their technical experience.
