MUSCAT: Oman Ammunition Production Company celebrated the handover of the first consignment of ammunition produced by the light weapons ammunition factory to the Ministry of Defence. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence and Chairman of the Board of Directors. The function was held at the company’s premises in the Wilayat of Samayil in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah. The foundation-stone for the factory, a direct investment by the security and army pension funds, was laid on March 26, 2015 and initial production started during late 2016.
The factory is one of the vital projects in the region as it is equipped with modern technologies to produce ammunition as per international quality standards. The factory design takes into consideration the vocational safety and security and environment requirements. The factory will open new fields for the Omani industry and provide business opportunities to small and medium enterprises. It will also generate job and training opportunities for Omanis as the Omanisation rate at the factory is 100 per cent. The event was attended by a number of senior SAF officers and factory officials. — ONA
