IBRI: A new fish market was opened on Wednesday in the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate. The project was funded by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) at a cost of RO 600,000.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Shaikh Saif bin Hemier al Malik al Shuhi, Governor of Al Dhahirah, and attended by Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Under-Secretary for Fisheries at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidy, Director-General of Marketing and Fish Investment at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, said the construction of the fish market is part of the ministry’s efforts towards developing the fish marketing system by establishing and upgrading both retail and wholesale fish markets. Currently, there are 59 fish markets across the governorates. As it becomes operational, the Ibri fish market will boost the trade and social activity as well as provide a convenient atmosphere for buyers and sellers.

Occupying a 3,000-sq-metre plot with a built-up area of 1,530 sq metres, the market boasts central air-conditioning, cold storages, ice production unit with a capacity to produce 5 tonnes of ice a day and modern display tables.
