MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH) strives to provide the best health services for cancer patients as prevalence of cancer is high in the world as well as in the Sultanate.

Therefore, the ministry, represented by the National Oncology Centre, has started providing qualified and highly experienced medical staff, quality medicines, besides modern radiological and therapeutic equipment and devices.

On the services provided by the centre, Faiz al Toobi, Head of Patients Services Section, said that the centre has exempted all cancer patients from paying the registration fee for either to open a register or for visits, taking into account their financial conditions and frequent visits.

The centre also provides suitable accommodation for the adult cancer patients consisting of 40 rooms along with three meals for the patient and the accompanying person.

Al Toobi added that there is accommodation and other facilities for child patients affiliated to the Oman Cancer Association (Dar Al Hanan) in cooperation with the National Oncology Centre. Entertainment and educational activities are organised for these children by specialised teaching staff. The child’s family is allowed to stay with their kid during his/her stay.

The centre is working to integrate the volunteers and voluntary teams with the inpatients in order to enhance the psychological conditions of the patients and their families.

For the elder patients, the centre fulfils their wish to go to Mecca to perform Umrah with a medical team. It also provides some essential requirements for the limited income and social security patients including furnishing their homes, providing financial support like school needs, clothing for the Eid and Ramadhan requirement.

The National Oncology Centre organises awareness conferences and events for the community on cancerous tumours, symptoms, causes and prevention methods.
