National leadership programme kicks off

Muscat: The Competence Development Institute of the Diwan of Royal Court organised an introductory meeting for 35 participants of the National Leadership and Competitiveness Programme from the various public organisations in the Sultanate at Al Wahat Club in Athaiba on Wednesday.,


The programme, which targets directors-general of the government units, is patronised by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.


While addressing the participants, Dr Ali bin Qassem al Lawati, Adviser at the Diwan of Royal Court, said that the programme aims at enhancing partnership between public and private sectors and enabling the private sector to play a bigger role in the socioeconomic development.


On his part, Sayyid Salim bin Musallam al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Service for Administrative Affairs Development, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Public Administration (IPA), said that the programme aims at developing human resources. He pointed out that the candidates have been selected after several rigorous tests.


Participants were introduced to training and guidance, the available resources and the strategic projects they will work on to get the required knowledge and experience throughout the eight-month long course.


The National Leadership and Competitiveness Programme offers best resources to enhance understanding of the business environment in the Sultanate and the world. The programme aims at providing participants with knowledge on how to draft strategic and operational plans that enhance growth and efficiency of performance in their organisations and the public sector as well.


The meeting was attended by members of the programme’s consultative committee and Dr Laurence Williams, representative of the knowledge partner, Said Business School at Oxford University. — ONA
