Mwasalat clarifies on airport taxi fares

Muscat: Mawasalat Taxi has clarified on reports about the exorbitant cab fares from Muscat International Airport.

The company said the fares of airport taxis were reviewed at the beginning of this year. Earlier the taxi meters used to start RO6, which was revised to RO3 for the trips between 6am and 10pm and RO3,600 for the trips between 10pm to 6 am and on weekends and public holidays.

The base fare was set lower than the current prices but it was rejected by the taxi owners as they found it to be not feasible.

Mawasalat said it will take up with the concerned authorities to regulate the airport taxi fees and is aware of the presence of unlicensed taxi and other private vehicles transporting passengers from the airport.

The unregulated operations gives a wrong impression to the foreign visitors and the review of the current prices will be considered with the competent authorities.

The company added that it does own the taxi fleet does, but manages the services as per the license granted to it by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to regulate the taxi sector.
