MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) pointed out that the UNECE 115, issued by the Ministerial Decision No 96/2018, is an Omani binding standard for approval of LPG or CNG retrofit system and its installation in motor vehicles. Sami bin Salim al Sahib, Acting Director General of Standards and Metrology at the MoCI, said that the standard that has been approved is related to the safety and environmental aspects regarding gas retrofitting of vehicles. He added that LPG that will be used in the vehicle is less polluting to the environment and cheaper.
Moreover, there are no harmful gases with emissions as it is very easy to separate it from air. He pointed out that a work team will be formed to discuss the use of gas (LPG/CNG) in vehicles. “To convert diesel operated vehicle to gas, no amendment will be made to engines. Some parts related to the compressed gas system will be added to the vehicle, so that it does not affect the guarantee of the manufacturing company, Al Sahib pointed out. — ONA
