Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has issued a clarification on what was circulated in the WhatsApp social media platform about the spread of poisonous jellyfish in the coast of the Sultanate.
According to the ministry, researchers at the Marine Science and Fisheries Centre have collected some samples, including that of Crambionella orsini, which are non-toxic, indicating that they are spread in only some coastal areas and not all.
The ministry warned the visitors these beaches to take caution and not to swim in places where there is a presence of lot of jellyfish.
Though not harmful, an exposure to jellyfish can lead to skin irritation and redness.
