ROME: The Italian newspaper Lastampa described the new Muscat International Airport as one of the best airports in the world, noting that it is expected to be ranked among the world’s top 20 airports by 2020.
The newspaper, one of the most famous Italian daily newspapers, said the work was going on at a steady pace at the airport, which is expected to open by next spring, highlighting the design of the new airport and the modern techniques that accelerate security procedures and reduce time.
The year 2017 was a record year for the Sultanate, which is visited by 43,664 Italian tourists, registering a growth rate of 35.3 per cent compared to the previous year.
The newspaper affirmed that 702,922 international tourists chose the Sultanate of Oman as a tourist destination.
Lastampa confirmed that the strategy of tourism development in the Sultanate focuses on two levels; the first level aims at attracting tourists and introducing them to the local product during their tour in various governorates and the wilayats whereas the second level provides special tourist packages especially for couples and families who prefer to spend their vacations in Salalah in the Governorate of Dhofar. — ONA
