G20 to promote trade

The Group of 20 major economic powers are committed to fighting protectionism and promoting trade, but found a way to accommodate US President Donald Trump’s economic nationalist agenda, according to the summit’s final statement.
“We will keep markets open, noting the importance of reciprocal and mutually advantageous trade and investment frameworks and the principle of non-discrimination,” the final statement reads.
The communique goes on to say that the leaders, whose countries represent 85 per cent of the world’s economic activity, “will continue to fight protectionism, including all unfair trade practices, and recognise the role of legitimate trade defence instruments in this regard.”
