MUSCAT: The 30th meeting of the joint committee of Sultan Qaboos University and UAE University approved four joint research projects from eleven research projects submitted by researchers. The approved projects are as follows (the names of the researchers are in brackets). Translational research related to gestational diabetes (Carl G Norstedt and Chris Howarth); the effects of experimental exposure of mice to water pipe smoke on the reproductive system: the ameliorative actions of some agents (Badreldin Al Hashmi and Abderrahim Nemmar); design and prototype of stimulator device to enhance locomotion of human with foot drop problem (Riadh Zaier and Fady Al Najar); and, comparative analysis and predictions of algal blooms in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman (Sergey Piontkouski and Waleed Hamza).
The committee’s meeting held on January 18, was chaired by Prof Ali bin Huwaishel Al Shuali, SQU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative & Financial Affairs, and Dr Ghaleb Ali Al Hadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, UAE University.
The meeting discussed points related to the development and activation of student activities between the two sides, enhancing student exchange, inter-library cooperation between the two universities, and enhancing exchange of experiences and joint scientific research.
SQU-UAEU Joint Committee aims to exchange scientific visits of faculty members and students between the two universities, exchange of publications, audio and visual programmes, and establish cultural meetings between students of the two universities in literary, cultural and sports fields, with the aim of stimulating and encouraging the creativity of students.
The committee facilitates exchange visits of outstanding students between the two universities, and allocation of seats for students of the two countries in each of the universities, and encourage exchange of visits between administrators and technicians to learn about the experiences of the two universities.
