Fees, a challenge for higher education

Simply believing in one’s dream is not enough to make it come true. Each one of us has a certain dream and ambition. However, we have to face different challenges so we can succeed in making our dreams come true. Other sacrifices in life should also be made to make our dreams possible someday. The essential requirements to achieve our dreams are many. Getting a higher education certificate is a key, of course. It is difficult for some people who did not get an opportunity to pursue higher studies.

For some reason or the other, they were forced to get a job or their grades were not supporting for securing a scholarship in a higher education institution. Thus, they preferred to look for a job instead.

Some of them thought of pursuing undergraduate studies afterward as part-time students. Perhaps, they had to take a different route to achieve their dreams of leading a decent life.

However, the high fees at the higher education institutions poses a real challenge for them to start their undergraduate studies. It’s not their fault that their plans got a different direction unlike others. Their priority was to make a living for families, so they sacrificed their studies.

Thousands of people dream about getting their graduate certificates, but they are challenged by the costs. However, they still believe in the saying that ambitious people keep trying until they get it right.

Therefore, they get themselves enrolled in one of the higher education institutions in the Sultanate with the aim of getting a certificate after a couple of years.

They start their educational journey for a couple of semesters. Afterward, all of a sudden, they face the challenge of increasing fees. It seems their financial abilities can’t cover funding of their study. This is something unexpected for them, but it’s a reality they have to face or surrender to.

For some, persistence and aspiration towards achieving their dreams are behind keeping them continuing with the long journey of study. Striving to achieve their much-awaited dreams, they have to do as much saving as they can to cover the education fees. It might work for some while it doesn’t work for others.

The heavy burden of educational fees makes ‘learning enthusiasts’ struggle a lot. Despite their several attempts, it is sometimes out of their control. Some have to give up as they can do nothing, but to reluctantly surrender the fight and stop their undergraduate studies. What happens is a real disappointment to many.

The high fees are scaring many people who would like to continue their educational journey. However, private colleges and universities don’t give a consideration to others’ interests or dreams. What matters to them is only making business and profit out of others’ struggles and sacrifice. How can people be encouraged to be more educated and pursue further studies if this is the case?

Since the foundation of every nation is the education of its youth, education of all types is everyone’s right regardless of their age or gender. Thus, educational institutions should be more responsible and never deprive interested people from pursuing higher studies because of their inability to finance their education. Flexible financial schemes should be implemented to help students pay their fees easily.

In fact, it’s everyone’s right not only to get an educational opportunity, but to have quality education. As we all know, education is not a preparation for life, but life itself.
