Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has issued a statement on social media reports, which undermines its efforts to develop quality technical education through direct recruitment of qualified cadres of lecturers and technicians.

The ministry said five recruitment companies were selected through a public tender issued by the Tender Board to meet the acute needs of teaching staff as the number of students have increased from 20,000 to more than 41,000 students in the seven technical colleges.

The profile of the owners of recruitment are available with the competent authorities.

As for the financial transactions between the company and lectures, the Ministry said figures provided in the reports are not true and it has made efforts to raise the proportion of Omanis in the departments that require staff with PhDs and the Master's degrees.

It said the rate of Omanisation in colleges among the deans is 100  per cent, followed administrators (98 per cent) and technicians (57 per cent).

It is only 20 per cent among academics, which the ministry seeks to raise in the future.

The ministry said it has appointed 387 Omani lecturers with Master's degree and 120 lecturers with doctorates from prestigious international universities to work in the technical colleges.

The statement said that ministry announced vacancies were announced about two months ago for 30 Omanis with bachelor's degree program, but could manage to get only eight applications.
