The Sultanate has peculiar celebratory traditions conducted by citizens during the religious and national occasions but those of Eid al Adha are particularly interesting. Eid al Adha has a special place in the hearts of Omani nationals who welcome it with new clothes and sweets but when it comes to delicacies the Shuwa (meat cooked in underground furnaces and mashakik) always have the upper hand. For the majority of Omani nationals Shuwa and mashakik are part and parcel of the Eid enjoyment as they willingly spend lots of money on buying animals as well as items required for the preparation of these two meals.
