Awareness seminar focuses on renewable energy

SALALAH: A seminar was held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Recreational Complex in Salalah and was organised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs as part of the Sultanate’s celebration marking Omani Environment Day, which falls on January 8th of each year. The opening of the seminar was sponsored by Najeeb bin Ali al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, who honoured the sponsors and participants in the activities of the Omani Environment Day.


The seminar programme included two working sessions, the first entitled “Environment and Renewable Energy”, which dealt with the future prospects of renewable energies and environmental pollution. The second session entitled “The Natural Environment” touched upon maritime pollution, its relation to vital resources, the importance of natural reserves and the problem of desertification. The seminar aimed to highlight the role of government agencies in preserving the environment and human beings and finding optimal solutions to address the various environmental problems and activate them in order to preserve the environment and human beings.


The celebration of the Omani Environment Day continues until the end of January, as part of the keenness of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs to raise awareness among all members of society and involve them in taking responsibility, in highlighting the importance of instilling the correct environmental education in accordance with our Omani customs and traditions. — ONA
