The Royal Oman Police (ROP) in a statement said the search and investigation efforts resulted in the arrest of a person of Asian nationality who was promoting a counterfeit Gulf currency.
The accused admitted that he was shopping from shops in the state of Buraimi using a fake Gulf currency, taking advantage of the amounts returned to him in the actual currency.
He also admitted that the actual forgery took place in his home country where he bought the counterfeit currency from a person for money and used it in the Sultanate for shopping process. The legal proceedings have been taken against the accused.
ROP urged citizens and residents to be careful in dealing with various currencies, especially foreign ones and immediately report of any such incidents.
