By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Feb 20 - The Economic and Financial Committee of the Majlis Ash’shura hosted on Monday a number of officials from Oman Air as part of its plans to study the performance of state-owned companies in the Sultanate. At the meeting, Oman Air gave a presentation on the company’s vision, which said the airline through its high-quality services have been promoting the Sultanate as a tourist destination, known for its traditional monuments and authentic hospitality Omani. The presentation also touched on the proportion of the company’s contribution to GDP, especially in the tourism sector by increasing the number of destinations and encouraging holiday packages.
The presentation said the Omanisation percentage in the company until the end of the month of December of 2016 amounted to 61 per cent, which included Omanis in the senior leadership positions such as executive management (executive-vice president / senior-vice president / vice-president) at 66 per cent. The total percentage of Omanis in middle management (senior / manager / assistant director) levels is 54 per cent, while at the administration level (officer ranks), Omanis accounted for 68 per cent.
The presentation said the company plans to increase the proportion of Omanis to 70 per cent by 2020. The presentation also dealt with the steps taken by the company in the areas of governance, environment protection and social responsibility by supporting small and medium enterprises.
It said the company has launched a training programme for 50 small and medium enterprises, in cooperation with the Public Authority for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises, apart from the start of an electronic window to help SMEs register and apply for tenders online. The presentation also talked about the status of some of the present and future projects.
Then Shura committee members were satisfied on the company’s future plans to increase its contribution to the GDP, and response to its queries on annual losses despite the annual government support.
