Indian food especially its street food is taxing to a non-Indian stomach due to its hot and heavy flavour. Maya and Manga at The Cave complex in Darsait aims to change that taste. So enjoy your favourite dishes with Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

The aim is to make spicy food more appealing to global food lovers by toning down the flavours. Kishore Singh, the founder of Maya, says with pride that the place is gaining popularity with among Omanis and expats, as it celebrates second anniversary this year. “Maya and Manga is the result of many brain storming sessions. It signifies living your dreams and chasing them down. It’s all about living life as a new brand, good food and music along with family and friends.”

Maya caters to people who love spicy street food but who often find its heavy flavour a gastronomic challenge. The trick is to maintain the balance in their grills, tandoori (kebabs or tikkas) or biriyani which suits the universal palate. Locally sourced Omani ingredient/spices are used to make dishes. The foreign lounge revolves around Indian and Asian cuisine, while infusing Omani flavours to its signature dishes.

Among the popular dishes are Omani Zatar and Jaituni Tikka, a twist of Indian street food, infused with Omani Bamia (Okra) coarsely ground with Indian mild spice to make a filling for rice sheet and steamed fresh.

Kishore says street food is fresh as it is prepared daily and it is never stored. Maya follows the same philosophy in its menu. Maya is not just a place for dining but it is a perfect venue to hold special events and celebrations.
