Launching its summer 2017 events, Bait Al Baranda is putting together activities that would take children away from the confines of their homes and encourage them to be more productive with their time by engaging with the art.

“We are in the midst of preparing our summer children’s workshop which will feature art classes from gardening to learning about Omani plants, painting of indigenous Omani plants and its recycling, all aimed towards school students,” said Museum Director Malik al Hinai.

This workshop is in partnership with the Omani Botanic Gardens based in Old Al Khoudh, which has been established by Royal order.

Commencing on August 6 and running until August 22, 2017, Al Hinai clarified that they aim to inculcate in children the importance of extracurricular activities in their daily lives. Instead of them being at home during the long summer school vacations, children could indulge in art of all forms.

Al Hinai said, “Bait Al Baranda is privileged to host this yearly summer activity and this is our eleventh conducting such event.”

He added, “We have managed to identify a niche and that is children in our communities. We aspire to introduce and encourage new talent at all times, as art is a natural channel for nurturing children’s creativity, be it in the arts, science or technology.”

He also shared, “Our summer event last year was a success with over 160 children participating. Not only did we invite children from within the Muttrah community we also extended invitations to the Muscat community at large. They participated in various art activities all based within the theme “Be Green.”

“This year we continue with the environmental theme “Be Green 2” and we expect the same enthusiasm from our young “friends of Baranda,” Al Hinai said.

A culmination party will be held on August 22 for all participants while the opening will take place at their headquarters in Muttrah seafront.

The worskshops will be conducted under the supervision of Oman Botanic Gardens staff, Omani artists and a few college students will assist.

“We are delighted to be supported by Oman Botanic Gardens, PDO, Oman Oil Company, Ominvest and WJTowell,” Al Hinai said.

As regards to other future activities at Bait Al Baranda, “We look forward to bringing the best of art and culture to a broad and diverse audience during the next season.”

Application forms for registration, that have to be filled and signed, will be available at Bait Al Baranda from July 16 but people could tentatively register by phone.

Children can choose to participate in a weekly session for RO10 per child. This is a two-week workshop. For more information, they can be contacted at 24714262.
